iPod on shuffle and tucked into the band of her shorts, Kyla got out of her car after parking it as close to the beach as she dared. She had no idea what this area was like and if people happened to be drinking heavily, she did not want her car to be in the area where it could be hurt. She had parked in a more populated shop area and decided to walk the rest of the way. She had her music on anyway, so it’s not like the walk would be horrible. After taking her towel and draping it over her arm, she locked the door, took her keys, and her cell phone before shutting the door. Before she did anything else she placed her keys and phone in a plastic zip-lock bag to keep sand and water away from ruining them. The bag would also keep her things together since she didn’t have a bag with her to keep everything in. With an exhale she pushed herself off of her car from leaning on it and started walking away. The only trouble now would be remembering where she parked her white 2009 Honda Accord. It wasn’t her “baby,” but she quite liked the car and would hate to see it ruined. She glanced back one more time at it before walking towards the beach.
Since she was new to the area… maybe she could meet some new people here? She was lonely and already she had lost contact with her friends. They just would not respond to her calls, texts, and other various tries to reach them. She only had about three or four she was sort of close to, but one had moved away before she did and the others were a closer circle and she always seemed to be the outcast whenever they would hang out. Biting the inside of her bottom lip, Ky shook the thoughts away (mentally of course) and focused on the song currently playing. Paradise City by Guns N’ Roses… go figure. Maybe this place would be her Paradise City? She could only hope so in all reality. She did not know these people and they did not know her. If somebody did approach her, because Lord knew she was going to be too shy, would she even manage to say “hi” back or somehow start up a conversation? She did not want to be a nuisance and bother people. Worst case scenario she would swim for a bit and enjoy the cool-down from the sudden flare of heat and humidity today before perhaps just sitting on the beach and listening to her iPod before heading home. Heck, like anything was waiting for her there anyway. They really needed to get another dog… soon.
It only took a few minutes for her to find a spot on the sand that she thought wouldn’t be in the way of others’ belongings. She laid out her towel and sat on it for a bit, flip flops off and laid to the side while she took the zip-locked bag she was previously holding by her teeth and placed it under a scrunched-up portion of her towel so it looked like the towel was bunched up and not hiding something. She just hoped nobody would see or would at least be respectful enough and not take her things. Getting a new phone she wasn’t worried about and the key she had with her was just a spare, so nothing to worry about too much… but still… they did cost money to replace. Miraculously, her iPod was still pressed against her hip in the waist band of her shorts and hadn’t fallen out already. Panama by Van Halen had just started up and she wasn’t about to turn off her iPod now. She would let the song finish before she thought about whether or not she would get into the water anytime soon. Her iPod did seem to be digging into her side a little though, so she took it out of her waistband and held it in her hand while looking over her raised knees to gaze at the water, smiling slightly. She did just happen to quite like this song.

Josh stood at the waters edge, just letting it touch the tip of his toes, he looked around and smirked as he ran into the waves, he went a certain distance before diving into the salty sea water - he came back up and drifted his way back to the sandy shore. He laid in the damp sand, letting the water run under him, it was peaceful and he enjoyed the feeling - he sat up and looked around, he saw a girl sitting on her beach towel observing the waves, a sly smirk took over Joshes face as he stood and dusted the damp said from his behind as he made his way up to her, flipping his wet hair along the way to try and dry it out a bit.
Josh stood in front of her, blocking the sun "Why hello there" he said calmly as he scratched his head and looked from side to side observing the people around him - most of them he knew, but he hadn't seen her before and was curious as to where she came from. "My name's Josh, what's yours?" he asked curiously as he kneeled down using his hand to shield the sun from his eyes, his curious eyes couldn't help but look her over, she had a stunning body - what more could he say?. Josh moved from a kneeling position to a sitting position; still admiring her flawless features "I haven't seen you around here before, I guess your on holidays?" he said assuming it was Spring break - unless she just moved here, the thought made him even more excited; all the things he could due - he smiled as he shook his head, he couldn't help the thoughts that struck his mind - luckily he wasn't drunk, he'd blurt em' all out.

Well so much for getting up when the song was over, because now Let’s Get Rocked by Def Leppard was playing and she was still sitting there and looking at the ocean in front of her. The sun felt good on her skin and was warming her to the point where she felt like she would have to cool off in the water soon. Her pleasant thoughts of the hot sun, music, and daydreaming were soon popped like a balloon when a shadow fell upon her and seemed to stay there. She looked up, turning the volume down and taking her ear buds out in time to at least catch his name. She had missed what he said before, but it looked as if he had said some type of greeting. A smile suddenly made its way on her face to be polite and nice even when he kneeled down and she realized he meant to talk with her even if just for a little. Josh was his name, huh? Hoping to play it cool, she let the smile grow a little bigger before introducing herself. ”I’m Kyla, nice to meet you, Josh.” It was simple pleasantries and she hoped her voice didn’t seem too timid, as she was rather shy.
And when she saw his eyes roam over her, she could feel a blush come across her chest and all the way up to her ears. She was not used to this and there was no way he could be possibly checking her out. Nuh-uh… that just did not happen to her. Her stomach clenched in a nervous pinch as he moved to sit and she realized he was possibly going to stay longer than she had first thought. ’Oh God… I wasn’t planning on this,’ she thought to herself even though secretly she had wished to meet someone whiles he was here at the beach. While there was a brief silence (her not knowing what to say) she turned her iPod off and rolled up her ear buds as she brought her legs closer to her to sit cross-legged. She dropped her iPod in her lap to keep it safe for now and did not want to place it in the bag yet, because then he would see where she had her keys and her phone- valuables. He spoke up again and she looked up at him to nod. ”That and entirely new too.” Her voice should not have been as timid as before (if it even was) and rather calm despite the butterflies flying around in her stomach. She didn’t say anything else and started to nibble on the inside of her bottom lip again as she brought her legs up closer to herself and wrapped her arms around them, chin resting on one of her knees in an attempt to reduce her insecurity. Self-confidence was never really her strength when she was alone and not with friends.

Josh repeated her name over and over in his head "Kyla? what a pretty name and what a pretty girl" he said with utter confidence, "Ah, I see, everyone here is tight knit? I guess" he said with a nod. He couldn't help but notice her pulling her knees closer and closer, was he making her uncomfortable? yeah, he may like the ladies but he didn't like it when he made them uncomfortable - he took a deep breath and exhaled "Am I making you uncomfortable?" he asked as he prepared himself to leave "Would you like me too leave?" he asked - he wanted to slap himself in the face, too many questions; he bit his lip to make himself shut up. Josh couldn't figure out what was happening, he had never been nervous before.
Joshua tried to keep his cool as he took his gaze off of her and glanced at the ocean, he couldn't just up and leave without an explanation; that'd be rude - he thought as he gazed back at her, his eyes wondering over her body like they were searching for something, his gaze landed on her eyes, locking their gazes; she was far too interesting to ditch. Josh promised himself that he'd only leave if she insisted, he nodded to himself as he looked down.

At his compliment, she couldn’t help but to blush. She could feel the heat in her cheeks and it was not just the sun’s doing and the heat. ”Um… thanks,” she managed to say, a bit unsure of herself. This was entirely new to her- compliments from a guy she didn’t know. Sure she had guy friends back home, but they only seemed to compliment her once they got to know her and her personality. She pursed her lips when he spoke again she added in, ”Perhaps,” after his “I guess.” Right after she spoke, she shrugged her shoulders and shifted her gaze to the right to see a young girl pass by behind Josh with an ice cream cone and her small hand in her father’s. Ky smiled at the picture and remembered the days she spent times like those with her dad. The thought of her dad led her to the thought of her family and then to the empty new house she would probably return to after this. Her smile dropped a little, but she returned her gaze to Josh nevertheless.
When he asked if he was making her uncomfortable, her thoughts ranged around “yes” to “well aren’t you blunt?” She moved to speak by taking her chin off of her knee and was about to say something when he asked if he should leave. Her eyes widened a bit before she shook her head and dropped her hands as her legs returned to a crossed position. ”No! I just… um…” She couldn’t really form what to say. Admitting she had never really received this much attention from a guy would be her undoing. She had never had a boyfriend and seemed to have rotten luck with the guys she started to develop a crush on. Her eyes had drifted away why she paused, but came back to see his eyes locked on hers. She froze before adverting her eyes and looking away from him. Any longer and her face would have flushed once again. She noticed him looking down however and thought she had just told him his little puppy had died. She could be exaggerating of course, but she had to fix this. ”I’m just a little shy I guess… I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be rude or anything.” Her eyes moved back to him and she needed to think of a conversation starter soon if he didn’t, but what to ask? ’Hey- you single?’ Her mind put up on the board of things to say- ’Hell no,’ she replied to herself and her thoughts. She almost groaned, thinking she had made things awkward, but realized how much more awkward it would have been if she had asked that question out loud.

thanks her voice sent chills down his spine causing him to shiver slightly, oh man he was so confused. When Kyla said no, Josh was more than happy to stay; he wanted to get to know her before he tried to make a move "Shy? you don't look it" what a stupid thing to say he thought to himself as he turned to face the ocean and mouthed the words 'fuck' angry at himself for being a complete douche.
Joshua looked at her and searched around for something to say, he bit his lip as he went into deep thought - 'do you.., no thats just stupid. "What brought you to Kambrook?" he asked as he sprawled out on the sand, he hated sand but it felt good. Josh gazed at the clear, blue sky - if only my mind was that clear he thought as he watched a cloud slowly drift across the sky, the sun of course ruined his view, by getting brighter.

Josh had repeated the word “shy” and said she didn’t look shy and Ky couldn’t help but to laugh a little. He turned around and she shook her head slightly before speaking to him even if he wasn’t looking at her. ”It depends… I can think I’m shy, but then later on or something I find myself being rather outgoing and not being my usual quiet self.” Her thoughts went back to classes and how shy and quiet she was back at home. As she grew older she had come out of her shell a bit, but she still held herself back due to low self-confidence she had yet to fully grow out of. Around her friends she could be louder and wilder, but she could also be quietest of the group. Here was a place to start over though… could she?
Her thoughts stopped short as she was asked a question and she watched as he sprawled out on the sand. ”Dad got a better job,” she told him truthfully. She was still fairly new to the area and had only attended a few days of school before the break started. Perhaps when the break was over she would have people to eat lunch with when school started back up. It was a comforting thought. The sun seemed to be beating on her now and of course, she had to be wearing a black tank top. Sighing, she placed her iPod in her bag before hiding it under the towel again. Still sitting, she took off her tank top and folded it to lay over the area her valuables were at. It was a good thing that Josh seemed to be preoccupied at the moment, because she would not have had the nerve to take of her tank top if he was looking. Next, she still sat, but shimmed out of her shorts, folded them, and placed then on top on her folded tank. Rising to her knees, she moved close enough to him to make sure he saw her before asking, ”How’s the water? I could go for a little swim, you?” At this point, she grinned before standing up and stretching, her eyes closing for a moment before opening again. Her arms moved to hug herself as she tried to ignore her bikini-clad state in front of this boy and waited for his reply. He might of just gotten comfortable, but he didn’t have to go swim with her.

Josh could relate, usually he was really outgoing and then other times like now, he found himself to be nervous? the word annoyed him, he didn't want to be nervous he also wanted to know what was making him so nervous; was it Kyla? he pondered on the thought.
"Oh? where does he work?" he asked trying not to pry into her personal life too much, he didn't care if she told him or not, he just didn't want the conversation to die. Josh was hypnotized by the waves, when he heard her move closer, he moved his gaze to her, she was now just wearing a bikini - this made him almost drool with lust, but he kept his sexual comments to himself as he sat up slowly and dusted the sand particles from his skin "Yeah, why not?" he said poking his tongue out a bit. Josh stood up slowly and stretched, he turned and waited for her, he couldn't keep his greedy eyes off of her - was she doing this on purpose? Josh couldn't complain he liked being teased it sent his nerves in a riot.

Not seeing the harm in telling him where her father worked, she had to first recall where he was now working at. She thought for a moment before saying anything. ”I don’t remember the name actually, but it’s for some type of private business.” Her dad had a good and better paying job as long as that private business didn’t shut down anyway. Hopefully things would work out and maybe her dad would earn enough money and more to retire so he was not away from home so much. Then again, this was her senior year and she planned on going to college after graduation. Perhaps she could get herself into a local college and that way she could visit and still spend time with her workaholic parents. But enough of those thoughts. The sun and the heat were starting to cause drops of sweat to form on her forehead and by now it was time to hopefully let the water cool her down a bit.
Grinning, she stuck her own tongue out before taking it back and waiting until he was done stretching. Her arms were crossed as she waited where she was. As he stretched, she had to look away for a little bit before returning her gaze to him once he was done and seemed to be waiting for her. She raised a brow in question if he was done before starting to walk towards the water. She focused on the water as a thought came to her- all thanks to oceanography. ”So if there are any sharks or jellyfish or whatever, you’ll rescue me… right?” She decided to make her question of if there were sharks fun and even making it slightly teasing as she bumped into him slightly with her shoulder- her arms were still held firmly around herself. A grin was still on her face however and she hoped he was not quick to anger at a little, playful nudge.

Josh hung on to her every word "That seems rather interesting" he said with a nod, he didn't mean for it to sound sarcastic, he was being more hen serious with his reply; he shrugged it off. He wanted to know everything about her, personal or not he needed to know, for his own nervous state - how many boyfriends had she had? like he needed to know as far as he was concerned they were only ever going to be friend; ugh.. he hated the word especially when it came to girls - then again he had quite a few girl friends, yes friends and only friends - unless they wanted to have some fun, if you get what I mean.
He chuckled at her remark about saving her "If you're lucky" he gave her a wink, as she bumped into him playfully he slowly drifted behind her and tickled her - hoping that it was her ticklish spot. Josh had never gotten angry at a girl before - no matter what the situation may be, he always thought of them as fragile - things that break easily; being bought up by his mother he was taught to treat all woman with respect - his sleeping around reputation didn't hurt anyone as he wasn't in a relationship at the time. He shook his head bringing him back to reality.

Maybe private businesses were interesting, but personally… Ky wanted her dad back home for more than just five hours on weekends. So instead of agreeing with him, she just shrugged. It was a job and it provided her family with the money they needed to get by. After a few months they would probably be able to begin being near the upper portion of the middle class. If it got to that point, she only hoped at that point that her dad would be granted with more leave so he could spend time with his family more. God forbid he would start seeing another woman during this time. As far as she knew her parents were still happily married and she wanted it to stay that way. But again… out of those thoughts. She was here to have a little fun hopefully, meet some new people, and enjoy the day. It was a much needed break from unpacking and setting the house up after their move.
She narrowed her eyes in a playful glare as he winked. ”What do you mean ‘if’?” she challenged after his response. During the time she waited for his reaction to her nudge, she kept her head down and focused on where she was walking. She didn’t notice when he had lagged behind her and by the time she realized it, she had already let out a small squeak from being tickled. More than anything, it had caught her by surprise and she was always more aware of her body when she was around guys. She had jumped at the sudden tickle as well and turned herself around to face him with an expression of surprise as in: “I can’t believe you just did that!” She quickly regained her composure though and reached for his hand before giving it a tug that would hopefully swing him around to walk in front of her. Letting him get behind her already seemed like something she had to try to avoid if he was going to tickle or even poke her. ”You need to stay in front, Mister,” she told him with a nod as she continued on walking. They were getting closer to the water and she hoped that the sun would have warmed the water up if even just a bit.

Josh chuckled quietly "If, I think your worth saving" he said with a cheesy grin, he loved playing around with girls - they weren't rough which most guys were but Josh never really liked it. He watched her jump in surprise 'damn' he thought - he was willing to try again, but in a different spot of course. Josh watched her grab his hand and move him in front "Oh? so you can stare at my ass?" he chuckled softly, he hoped she knew how to joke around - otherwise his sense of humor would just annoy her and then no friend for Josh; he pouted at the though of no longer being friends with her.
Wait.. are we even friends he thought - he hadn't asked, maybe later. As soon as they reached the water, josh stepped in and watched the water come forward and then slowly drift back out. Josh turned to Kyla "How far do you want to go out?" he asked curiously as he admired her well shaped body "amazing" he whispered to himself, but cleared his throat to cover it up if she heard.

Despite the grin, Ky put on a pout as if she was hurt. Soon enough however, she shrugged it off and grinned. ”Ah well… your loss.” Then the events occurred that currently had her edgy around him. Her back always seemed to be sensitive around guys along with a few other spots because she was told herself she was always wary and didn’t know what they would try to pull. Keeping him away from her back shouldn’t be too hard, but if it was at least he should not have reason to go near her ears or touch her stomach or hips. If he managed to do something around those areas, she knew her face would be as red as a tomato. Kyla had to make sure to keep an eye on him. Another one of his questions popped up and she felt her face heat up before she decided to try and play it off by waving her hand. ”Honey, as if your ass was even worth looking at.” Not being able to keep a straight face, her lips turned up in a grin, believing she had gotten him and won somehow with her words. She even let a little southern drawl into “honey” she had picked up from Virginia, wondering if the slow and low-toned drawl she used with it would have an effect.
Pretty soon she laughed, not believing she had just said that. Oh well, perhaps she would forget about it soon enough and things would move on. As Josh stepped in the water and asked her how far, she shrugged, an ”I dunno…” rolling off her tongue. Figuring out how far to go would have to be determined by whether or not she could touch the bottom. She was only 5’4” compared to well… however tall he was. Granted, she could swim, but this was a beach with unpredictable currents compared to a pool. Walking forwards again to follow Josh’s footsteps, she paused by him before continuing to walk out. So much for keeping him away from her back, but it was better than watching him watch her in a way that sent her trying to cover herself. She waded in until the water finally hit the middle of her stomach and she sucked in a breath. It was cold! No big deal, it was not that cold, she just had to move around and get used to it is all. Looking back towards Josh, she grinned at the implication of what she was going to say before calling out to him, ”You coming?”

Josh smiled at her reply "Of course I'd save you" he said softly. Ah, she does have a sense of humor he thought, her remark was funny he had to admit "You, win you win" he said in between quiet laughs, he knew he was going to get along with her from this point on.
Joshes feet waded at the shoreline, the slightly cold water made him shiver slightly, but he shook it off. He watched her drift out to waist deep water - you coming?, oh he most definitely was, she should know better than to say things like that around him "Sure am" he called out to her with a sly smirk, of course he wasn't going to try anything on her but joke around? of course. He slowly walked out and made his way to her - the water was cold, but he could hide the fact that he was freezing?. Josh gave her a smile and stood in front of her "So what I've figured out so far is that you don't like people standing behind you? and you have a good sense of humor" he said with a nod as he kept a fair distance between them.

Even with his words being soft, she caught them and it caused her smile- different from a grin. Then the grin that seemed to be constantly on her face came back when she heard him admit she won. She laughed before sticking her tongue out again in a little victory, but she wasn’t done yet. ”Hah! I thought I’d win.” It’s a good thing he didn’t find what she said offensive, but it also wasn’t like was questioning his masculinity because that would have probably set him off like what she has observed around school and read in books. Well let’s just say she was going to hopefully not try that anytime soon, because who know what stunt he might pull to prove he indeed was very… male? Yeah, she did not want to be around for that.
Noticing Josh coming closer, she turned her gaze briefly to look away. She had been trying to avoid looking at him before, but he was walking right towards her and she could not help but to realize what type of body he had. Every girl wanted a nice looking guy after all, right? It sent her into a small blush that was dimmed down by the cool water thankfully and she knew if she ever saw him again she would remember what was underneath that shirt of his. ’Get away from those thoughts!’ She scolded herself mentally and told herself to pay attention as he grew closer to her. ”Depends on who is behind me and…” she trailed off and took the time to grin, ”I have my days.” The last part was in response to her sense of humor, a little proud look on her face. Anyway… she noticed the distance between them and felt a little more respect for the guy. Staying still in the cool water however, was a problem that needed to be solved soon. She began walking again to go a little deeper and when she finally felt she could bend her knees enough to let her go under the water, she did just that after taking a breath of air. She came back up soon after and brushed her back off of her face before whipping the water away from her eyes. She moved to stand back up fully, but realized it was colder out of the water during the breeze and brought herself back into the water. Maybe it was one of those things where you had to get in, get out, and get back in things that would get you used to the water… ”You alright?” She asked him while she moved her arms in a treading motion to keep moving and keep warm.
